backstory
❝ evelyn was raised in the small suburbs of melbourne australia to two creative parents. her mother was an actress before her retirement at 50 and her father is a well established author. she spent her childhood surrounded by art, whether it was watching her mother’s films or reading her dad’s novels. because of this, she knew she wanted to be in the movies at a very young age.she started her acting career as early as 10 years old, mainly taking the roles as the little sister or an extra. she would continue doing acting until 16, where she took a hiatus to focus on finishing high school. after graduating at 18, she resumed acting and gradually took on bigger roles.after receiving the diagnosis for her anxiety and adhd—she took a brief mental health break. during this time, she was doing therapy and finding ways to help manage her anxiety and adhd. it’s still very much present, but she has, since then, managed it well enough that it doesn’t prevent her from doing what she loves.
during her break and thanks to her younger sister, evelyn decided to take up screenwriting. not only were asian voices under-represented in hollywood, she also wanted to give her sister and others like her something to look up to and for them to see their stories on the big screen.when she had the spare time, she’d attend classes to learn about the craft while building connections. she eventually wrote her first screenplay ‘in-between,’ which later became a feature film that she also co-starred in. down the line, she became a script supervisor for ‘metalstorm.’evelyn has a soft spot for rom-coms, fantasy, action and coming of age films. these genres are often reflected in her writing and the kinds of roles she takes, but she's slowly starting to experiment with other genres. she writes for and stars in mainly films, but she’s becoming more open to television.
